Mercedes Schlapp has no easy job in her role as White House adviser for strategic communication. It's not an easy task for Mercedes Schlapp as the strategic communication adviser at White House. The month of March was when she received plenty of press attention after her name came up as a potential candidate in the race to replace Hope Hicks in the role as communications director. She is faced with many challenges, such being a president who serves as his communication director. However, throughout it all Schlapp is determined to focus on her task at hand, working closely with White House's policy as well as legislative affairs and policy shops as well with the larger communications team for policy-related rollouts. Her focus to date has been issues such as security in schools and the opioid crisis, infrastructure, trade as well as other topics. Schlapp doesn't deal with reporters often in her current position. The issue came up in March when she gained a sudden burst media attention when it became widely known that Schlapp was a potential candidate to take over Hope Hicks's post as the director of communications. The fighting has been nasty. Friends of Schlapp as well as Tony Sayegh who is another contender for the job have been fighting over the media. When the Washington Examiner published a negative report on Sayegh Schlapp stated that she called him to have a open heart.
